For Working Professionals and Founding members
INTRODUCTION
In the modern times, most of the organizations are founded with a solid social-impact vision in mind. Though being profitable or sustainable remains as one of the bottom lines, gone are the days now when businesses were launched by like-minded people only for the sake of making profits. In such times, while companies of the future are already striving for a better world, what can we do to take them one more step ahead?
How about a shift from ‘social impact’ to ‘inner growth’? What happens when an organization strives to create a working environment or culture so that its own people- founders as well as team members- grow from within while they are doing their work? Moreover, what happens when the same organization strives further to mould its own products or services in a way so that even its customers get a chance to grow from within while they use the offerings of the organization?
'Culture for Inner Growth' (CIG) Intensive is a program designed by Sahaj Foundation with a vision to facilitate the journey of organizations in this direction. The program introduces a whole new set of management principles and practices that inspires and enables its participants to consider self-management, wholeness and evolutionary purpose as their guiding light at work. In the process, the present dominant organizational paradigm based on mechanistic view- which operates on command, hierarchy, incentives, rules, targets etc- gets transformed into a paradigm that is very much in alignment with the way ‘Living Systems’ organize themselves.

What could organizations achieve, and what would work feel like, if we treated them like living beings, if we let them be fueled by the evolutionary power of life itself?
In this six-week long program, we shall use the book ‘Reinventing Organizations- A Guide to Creating Organizations Inspired by the Next Stage of Human Consciousness’ by Frederic Laloux as our guide. The book presents the principles of Teal Organizations through 12 case studies of the companies or organizations- including Holacracy, Buurtzorg, Morning Star, FAVI, Patagonia and Sounds True- that are already functioning in different parts of the world. During our sessions, we shall collectively go through the 160-page illustrated version* of the book, while also discussing many case studies from 360-page detailed version of the same. In this whole process, we shall seek the support of group work, meditation, video talks, articles etc to deepen our learning experience. *All illustrations on this page have been taken from this book. About the Author: Frederic Laloux works as an adviser, coach, and facilitator for corporate leaders who feel called to explore fundamentally new ways of organizing. A former Associate Partner with McKinsey & Company, he holds an MBA from INSEAD and a degree in coaching from Newfield Network in Boulder, Colorado. He presently lives in Brussels, Belgium, with his wife, Hélène, and their two children. He prefers a simple lifestyle while doing less and being more in nature in silence. |
The program aims to be flexible to accommodate participants of different time capacities. For those of us who cannot devote too much time during weekdays, we will have two power-packed weekend sessions on Saturdays and Sundays that shall introduce all aspects of the learning in a very participative manner. And for those of us who would like to devote more time, we will have supplementary optional sessions spread across the weekdays that shall further facilitate group discussions and dialogues.

PROGRAM OUTLINE
Module 1: Human Evolution and Organizational Models
This module shall help us to understand how every time humanity has shifted to a new stage of consciousness, it has also invented a radically more productive organizational model. It shall also help us to understand how and why different organizations of our times- such as armies, government agencies, corporations, NGOs- are different from each other. Finally, the module introduces the guiding principles of Evolutionary Teal organizations. |
Module 2: Understanding Self-management
This module shall help us to understand the magic that happens when organizations leap from hierarchical, bureaucratic pyramids to tap into fluid systems of distributed authority and collective intelligence. We shall also study the transformation that self-management brings to the aspects of decision making, performance management, conflict resolution, compensations and incentives structure. |
Module 3: Experiencing Wholeness
Enormous energy is set free when we finally drop the mask, when we dare to be fully ourselves. In this module, we shall go through the enlightening case studies of organizations that encourage their people to stop becoming their narrow ‘professional’ selves and bring all of who they are to work. The module shall also introduce the power of storytelling, silence and creating reflective and safe spaces in organizations. |
Module 4: Switching to Evolutionary Purpose
What if we stop trying to force the future into existence? What if instead we simply dance with what wants to emerge? This module shall be about how to switch an organization from trying to ‘predict and control the future’ to ‘listen and understand where the organization naturally wants to go’. We shall also understand how Teal organizations transform the space of Competition, Strategy, Marketing, Profits, Growth, Budgets and Targets. |
Module 5: Becoming Teal
In this last section of the book, we shall explore ‘necessary conditions to become Teal’ (for existing organizations) and ‘how to start a new Teal organization’. The module shall further discuss ‘the roles of CEOs in Teal organizations’ and ‘how can employees contribute’ to release the blocked energy by transforming their worldview and organizational practices. |
Module 6: Practicing together
In this last week of the program, we all shall collectively dive into small projects so as to put our learnings into practice. These projects may be connected with our present organizations where we work, or they may be connected with the reflections from our previous organizations that we have worked with. Moreover, the projects may also be connected to the creation of new Teal startups that the participants may choose to collectively explore. |
Disclaimer: Please do not expect to have any expert or professional of Organizational Management to be with us during this program. We shall be on our own, learning from each other while trying to apply our common sense to test the practicality or relevance of the proposed concepts

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
1.What do we mean by ‘Inner-Growth’?
‘Inner Growth’ to us means to work at the level of our minds so as to first become aware of the afflictions that we have within us (such as anger, greed, lust, fear etc), and thereafter work diligently, at the level of mind itself, to transform these afflictions into love, compassion, empathy, gratitude, trust and surrender.
In a broad sense, one can say, ‘Inner Growth’ means to become a better human being, or, alternatively, it means to resolve our inner conflicts to eventually become a calm, peaceful, relaxed and joyous human being.
2.How is the idea of ‘Inner-Growth’ connected with the concept of Teal Organizations?
Teal Organizations thrive in work cultures that are driven by inner-righteousness, wholeness and ‘taming of the ego’. These are the very conditions that we also require to grow from within. Moreover, Teal Organizations also tap into the ideas of Self-management and Evolutionary Purpose so as to transform organizational systems and practices, thereby providing conducive environment for ‘inner-growth’.
